Arts and craft beers

Exciting? Yes, of course.

The second edition of Arts and Draughts is back at the Grand Theatre Oct. 9.

“It’s a beer tasting meets coffee house vibe,” said Kara James, the Grand’s public relations co-ordinator. “Beer is to this decade that wine was to the last couple of decades. We (associate) beer with more than just football and wings.”

The event features 10 local microbreweries including London’s Forked River Brewing Company.

In its inaugural year, Arts and Draughts attracted many who appreciated the arts — and of course — the art of brewing.

“People love beer, but it’s that organic, craft, home-grown feel (that attracts people),” James said. “London is being known as a real grass roots, crafty, creative spot. So it fits that people can experience what we have to offer.”

For $30 a ticket, event goers can sample three beers (with more available for additional cost), enjoy treats from Milos’ Craft Beer Emporium and experience an evening of performances by the likes of YouTube sensation Darryn Rae and music by BA Baracus and Ellie K.

Money raised from the event goes towards supporting programming at the Grand.

“Some our revenue comes from ticket sales but some of it comes from donations. So it’s important that people know we are a not-for-profit and we do want to service the community we’ve been in since 1901,” James said.
