Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Smith County’s first ever craft-micro brewery is licensed and up and running. True Vine Brewing Company recently acquired their license from the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, and have set up shop in the heart of Tyler.

Steven Lee, Ryan Dixon, and Dan Griffith are the brains behind the brew. The trio met in bible study at a local church, and after Dixon read the book; “Searching for God and Guinness,” he knew he had to make beer.

These young men say, they are keeping it all local. Their first batch of craft beer is called, ‘Rose City Pale Ale’

Lee, partner of True Vine says, “It’s named ‘rose city’ because Tyler is the rose city, and we actually infuse the beer with rose hips which are the fruit of the rose.” They started small, ” We went from home brewing in the kitchen to using a small garage that we were using as a space,” Lee says. But now, they are a licensed beer brewing business.

They brew their crafted ales, with state of the art equipment from Sabco. And although they look up to the Guiness family, they say they want to stay small, because it about quality—not quaintly, “For us right now it’s just about being a better brewery, not a bigger brewery,” Lee says.

Dixon, the head brewer, says the beer making process is all about time, and passion, “About a week and a half to two week process from grain to glass,” Dixon says. One batch yields about 16 kegs. After that, they can begin selling their product and they plan to keep it close to home.”Whatever restaurants are locally owned and are willing to serve our beer, that’s where we’ll be and we’ll start with one, and we’ll build from there,” Lee says.

You could see Rose City Pale Ale in local bars and restaurants as early as December.
