News broke yesterday afternoon that legendary Belgian brewery, Duvel, famous for its strong golden pale ale, purchased Kansas City’s own, Boulevard Brewing Company, for upwards of 100 million dollars.
News broke late Thursday evening that Duvel not only purchased Boulevard Brewing company but also a neighboring Kansas City area craft brewing operation.
Duvel issued a statement from its corporate headquarters Thursday night that the Belgian Firm had also acquired a “Brewer’s Best DELUXE Beer Home Brewing Equipment Kit” from Kansas City local favorite homebrewer Justin White for an undisclosed amount of money.
Social media exploded with both good and bad perspectives as the sale of this mediocre Kansas City homebrew operation became public.
Brew-I.Q.com correspondents caught up with Justin White to get his take on why he decided to sell and how he felt about peoples reactions on craft beer social media.
“Frankly we were shocked with Duvel came to us with the offer,” White Stated.
“We entered our first homebrew batch into one local Kansas City Homebrew Shop competition…placed 13th out of 15 entries…and…boom… Belgians… on our doorstep…with a suitcase full of money…eyeing our homebrewing starter kit.”
“How could we say no?”
