The craft beer industry is making its presence felt.
The Brewers Association, a trade association for small and independent American craft brewers, has released new industry data showing craft brewers are taking more business from the big beer brands.
America’s craft brewing industry posted an 18 percent increase in volume of beer sold and a 20 percent increase in retail dollar value growth for its beverages in 2013.
Last year, craft brewers produced nearly 8 percent of the beer made in the U.S. — up from 6.5 percent in 2012.
The craft brewing industry’s share of the retail market reached $14.3 billion in 2013 — up from $11.9 billion the previous year.
The Dayton region has been buzzing with new breweries as dozen or so have opened or plan to open soon. Last month, local brewer Jerrod Fisher announced plans to open Crafted Pints Brewing Company in Dayton by the fourth quarter of 2014.
