Anyone here into brewing their own beer? I just started and expecting my first kit to be ready in 3 weeks. I am not advanced enough yet to create my own from scratch so it is kits for me. I have been using Northern Brewer for my supplies. Anyone have any suggestions as far as who to shop from, what kits to try?

I haven’t gotten into home brewing (yet), but have you been to Wish You Were Beer? They have supplies, and imagine their new place that will open at Stone Middle will have even more.

There are a couple thread in the food forum on home brewing, and of course a wealth of home brew info in other places on the internet.Nothing wrong with kits and malt extract recipes. When you get more experience you can try all grain beers but even after practicing my craft for over a decade I still use extracts, although I make good use of specialty grains. Kits to try depend on what beer you like? – wheat beers? IPAs? Stouts?I use a few internet suppliers – “MoreBeer” for my supplies usually but have used, I think it is “Austin Home Brew” and if I am really in a pinch we have some local suppliers in my town. As much as we would like to support local suppliers, you can’t ignore the convenience and the variety of ingrediants and kits from the internet stores.

I realize there are more in the food forum. But I wanted to keep this local since Alabama is coming along (slowly) with home brewing. And seeing as this area is full of craft beers, it seemed fitting for a good place to discuss with my local brethren.

Check out the Rocket City Brew Club. They usually meet once per month at a club member’s house. Since I moved to TN, I no longer have their link. Good bunch of people, I learned a lot from them.I’ve heard that the brew supply store in Athens on Hwy 31 has closed; anyone else know about that?
