This is a special entry for one of my favorite things… beer. Jason has been making homemade beer for a few years now. When he originally started, he created an India Pale Ale that was incredible, but only made one small batch. For the last two years he’s been experimenting with other beers that I do not enjoy, much to my chagrin. But alas! He finally created another IPA recently and the results are outstanding. He calls his home brewing operation Mellow Gnome Beer Company, and he’s named his latest creation Miss Gnomer Imperial IPA. He used Mosaic hops, providing all the bitterness and citrus flavor I enjoy in a beer with a high alcohol content at 8.1% ABV. Great IPAs are hard to find, especially in Tennessee where the alcohol and tax laws are ridiculously out of balance with the rest of the country, causing many top beer companies not to distribute here. And that is what makes what Jason has done so great. He created the best IPA in the state of TN, better than anything offered by a dozen licensed breweries in the area. I’ve tried a lot of beers from all over the world, and he’s reached the mountain top with this recipe. I’m fortunate to be one of the lucky few to have access to it, and I only hope the old boy is able to duplicate it soon, and again… and again… and again.
