In this photo taken Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, brewer Stefano Daneri holds up a beer at Good People Brewing in Birmingham, Ala. A beer revolution is brewing in Alabama. Drinkers thirsty for something other than Budweiser or Miller didnít have many choices in the state just a few years ago, but a series of laws passed since 2009 has opened up Alabama to the world of high-alcohol specialty beers, neighborhood brew pubs and microbreweries. Itís a big change in a Bible Belt state that still has dry counties and legally banned home beer brewing and wine making until this year. After a week of vacation, I’m, back and of course there’s beer news. When isn’t there beer news?
Wedge Brewing will release its long-awaited Cherry Raspberry Wheat brew on Aug. 12. Brewer Carl Melissas has been working on this beer for weeks now, and it looks to be perfect for summer.
Down at Lexington Avenue Brewery, the newest arrival is a saison called Malt-N-Pepper. It was made with Belgian Pilsen malt, Czech Saaz hops and cracked peppercorns.
