Here’s a beer worthy of stocking up for holiday gatherings before the supply dries up. Oloroso Cask ale, the latest offering from Innis & Gunn Brewing Company, is a limited edition beer of subtle complexity suitable for just about any occasion.
Made in the style of an English strong ale, Oloroso spends 60 days steeping in wooden casks originally used to mature Spanish sherry and later to lend depth of flavor to Scotch.
So there’s a lot going on in a wee bottle of this stellar ale brewed in Scotland, including hints of caramel, citrus and dark fruit. The oak is front and center, with just enough hops to keep things from getting too sweet. It’s 7.4 percent alcohol by volume, and finishes moderately dry and light.
