Reclamation Brewing Company is a small team of American craft brewers from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania trying to fund their dream of opening a craft beer brewery / brewpub. Beer can be more than just an excuse to get drunk. When crafted correctly, beer can actually be a pleasure to drink. Fortunately, craft brewers exist to offer an alternative to the watered down, tasteless experience that we've become accustomed to. Since forming their company, the goal of Reclamation Brewing has been to craft great beers and educate people about beer and its history. If you know anything about RBC, you may know that I've been following Ben Smith, John Smith and Ben Duncan since the beginning, filming a three-part documentary series about their journey from beer lovers to beer brewers as they learn how to brew beer and how to start a brewery. However, this project was different. Instead of just following their journey, I needed to help them continue their journey through Indiegogo. You can learn more about Reclamation Brewing Company at reclamationbrewing.com and visit their brewpub in Butler, PA.

The Reclamation Brewing Indiegogo video with filmed with the Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR running Magic Lantern with a Sigma 17-50MM F/2.8 lens. The Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head and Glide Gear DEV 235 video camera track slider were used for support. Audio was captured with the Rode NTG2 condenser shotgun microphone and recorded using the TASCAM DR-60D linear PCM recorder. Two Qualite 300 V-2012 focusing flood lights were used along with two Impact LB-QL300 Luxbanx Duo softboxes to light the scene. The video was edited using Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS5.5 and color graded with Davinci Resolve 10 on an Apple Macbook Pro. If you're curious about what other equipment was used, you can view my entire equipment list at http://ThatBrandonGuy.com.

Basics of Home Brewing: How to Replace an Airlock During a Blow-Out

When brewing your own beer at home, a blow-out (or overflowing, clogged airlock) is pretty much an inevitability as you go through your brewing journey. For vigorous fermentations, the best thing to use is a blow-off tube going into a jar or bucket of sanitizer or water. However–my fermenter (and many out there) do not accommodate the large tubing necessary for a blow-off tube system–so I have to use the smaller airlocks on all my brews. Here is how you handle a blow-out when it has overtaken a standard 3-piece airlock.

A lot of folks have asked for the recipe of this batch, so here it is:

6.0 lbs Plain Light Malt Extract
1/2 lb US Crystal Malt (crushed)
1/2 lb Chocolate Malt (crushed)
.5 oz Golding Hops (bittering)
.5 oz Tettnag Hops (finishing)
6 gm sachet of Muntons Ale Yeast

Brewed up in a very standard extract brewing method, yeast was dry-pitched at 71F. OG was 1.050, finished out at 1.010.

Building A Brewery is a three-part documentary film series that follows Reclamation Brewing Company, a small team of American craft brewers from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania trying to fund their dream of opening a craft beer brewery / brewpub. As their Kickstarter campaign comes to an end, Ben Smith, John Smith and Ben Duncan try to get the word out by participating in local beer tastings with Pittsburgh Beer Meetup and Pittsburgh BrewMasters. However, despite their overwhelmingly positive response, they're still a long way from their $35,000 goal. The documentary was filmed with the Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR running Magic Lantern with the Canon EF-S 55-250MM F/4.0-5.6 and Canon EF-S 18-55MM F/3.5-5.6 lenses. I used the Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head for support along with the Pearstone DWL-2 Universal Tripod Dolly. Audio was recorded with the RODE VideoMic. Video was captured on SanDisk Extreme 32 GB SDHC flash memory cards. The video was edited using Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS5.5 on an Apple Macbook Pro.
