Terrapin Beer Co.claimed a gold medal at the 2013
Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition.
Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced October 13 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
“Tree Hugger winning gold at GABF just weeks after winning bronze at an international competition in Germany is just a great feeling, ” remarked John Cochran, co-founder and President of Terrapin Beer Co. “While we’re not in it for the medals, it’s always encouraging to get recognition from our peers in the craft beer world.”
Terrapin Beer Co. was recognized in the German-style Altbier beer-style category for its Tree Hugger; a malt-forward ale that steps away from the brewery’s normally hop-heavy offerings, Tree Hugger features notes of caramel, toffee, and nut with a touch of herbal-spicy hop aroma. This brew is fairly new to the market, becoming part of the brewery’s year-round line-up in March of 2013.
Terrapin is a 35,000-barrel regional craft brewery located in Athens, GA with the mission to create unique experiences through the passionate brewing of the finest-quality craft beer.
The 2013 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 201 expert judges from the record number of 4,809 entries received from 745 U.S. breweries.
“The Great American Beer Festival brings together the most stellar brewers from around the country,” said Chris Swersey, competition director. “Taking home a medal at this premier beer competition is truly a symbol of brewing excellence.”
