The Laundry in Fenton postpones nanobrewery launch

FENTON, MI–Beer enthusiasts who planned to sample The Laundry’s new in-house brews will have to tame their taste buds for a while.
In a post on the business’s Facebook page this morning, The Laundry announced the postponement of the launch of its in-house brewery, Lynchpin Beer Company. The restaurant was previously scheduled to host a launch party on Thursday, Aug. 14 starting at 5 p.m.
Lynchpin Beer Company is The Laundry’s new in-house nanobrewery, conceptualized by employee Scott Hayes, who has home brewed his own beer for years and has worked at Michigan Brewing Company in Weberville.
The launch was supposed to debut five original beers: Gentleman’s Blonde, Space Monkey IPA, Pinhead Pale Ale, Lazy Rooster Red Ale, and She’s So Hefe Hefeweizen.
Head Bartender Jon Foley will still have four house cocktails available on draft, and he will still bring in a special selection of beers from other breweries. Customers can enjoy $2 off of all draft beers for the evening.
Mark Hamel, co-owner of The Laundry, said the postponement is a result of the batches that were scheduled to be served on Thursday not measuring up to the quality of what they had made before.
“In the brewing process (if you make a mistake), it’s not like if you make a cocktail, where you can dump it and start again. It’s not even like a cake or an entrée,” Hamel explained. “Because the process is such a long process, it’s not something you can start over.
“Unfortunately, you don’t find that out until you crack the batch,” he said.
Hamel said The Laundry’s management team is still confident in Hayes and his recipes, but that they had to make the “difficult decision” to postpone the launch and make sure they can get exactly what they’re looking for.
A new date isn’t set in stone, but Hamel said it would be in the “very near future.”
