spotlight: Springfield’s theater history
A new exhibit at the History Museum on the Square tells the story of the city’s oldest movie and vaudeville theaters. “The Show Must Go On: Theaters and Entertainment Venues in Springfield” runs through Oct. 11 in the Fox Theatre at the museum, on Park Central Square. By the early 1900s there were theaters all around downtown and Commercial Street. The exhibit also focuses on Springfield’s first two movie stars, William Garwood and Pearl White. Hours are 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Admission is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children.
event: Brewing up fun with beer
Ever thought about brewing your own beer? The Science of Beer and Home Brewing is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Brentwood Branch Library, 2214 Brentwood Blvd. Home brewer and chemistry teacher Robert Powers will explain the process at this free program for adults.
